Fireman Dives Down Narrow Well To Save Girl Aged 5

This is the moment a fireman is pulled out of from the bottom of a narrow well carrying a five-year-old girl after he dropped in head-first to rescue her.

The unnamed child, aged five, had been holidaying with her family in the county of Dongming in China’s eastern Shandong Province when she accidentally stepped into the disused borehole on 30th March.

The local fire service dispatched seven rescuers to the scene, with fire captain Zhou Qingzhi selecting their skinniest team member for the plunge.

Nie Shengyu, who dived down into the narrow well, said: “The young girl had already been trapped in the well for roughly 40 minutes.

The girl rescued from the well

“She was about 6 to 7 metres (19 to 22 feet) underground. There was standing water at the bottom and it was very dark.”

Nie’s colleagues lowered him into the well and he managed to grab onto the girl at the second attempt.

She was reportedly petrified and did not cry.

The dramatic rescue footage shows Nie shouting: “Pull! Pull! Pull!” until he reaches the surface again, carrying the five-year-old with him.

There are then shouts of “Medic! Medic!” as the child is laid on the ground.

In the video, the girl’s relieved father can be seen bursting into tears at the sight of his daughter still alive and breathing.

She was taken to hospital and was found not to have sustained any serious injuries.
