An extremely rare two-headed kitten has been born to a shocked pet owner who has been taking care of it after its mum abandoned it.
Owner Ms Yang said the fully white two-headed kitten was born at her home in Fuyang, in China’seastern Anhui Province, on 17th March.
It was born in a litter of seven kittens and it miraculously survived and is in healthy condition.
Remarkable footage shows the kitten with two ears, two noses, two mouths, and what looked to be two pairs of eyes that it has not opened yet.
According to Ms Yang, the cat’s mum shows disinterest in the bizarre offspring and ignores it.
Instead, she took on the job of feeding it through a syringe herself and said it eats and drinks like any other.
Yang added that because its two heads are heavy, the neck cannot support them, so the kitten keeps bobbing its head while moving.
The rare congenital condition that the kitten was born with is scientifically known as polycephaly.
Polycephaly can occur in various species, including humans and animals. Depending on the specific case, each head may have its own brain and function independently, or they may share a single brain.
The condition is often associated with significant challenges in survival and functioning due to the complexities of having multiple heads.
