A newly-graduated doctor tripped over a low wall and plunged three storeys to his death while taking a selfie at a World Cup party.
Samuel Marcaccini Ribeiro plummeted to the ground from the top of a building in Pouso Alegre, south-eastern Brazil, on Friday, 9th November.
The 23-year-old, who had graduated just a fortnight earlier, had met up with friends to watch their team take on Croatia in the World Cup.
After a thrilling one-all draw in extra time, football powerhouses Brazil eventually bowed out on penalties.
Witnesses told how after the game, Samuel leant on a parapet wall to take a selfie but lost his balance and fell.
Emergency services were called, and he was still alive when help arrived.
He was taken to Samuel Libanio Clinical Hospital with serious injuries, but died of a cardiorespiratory arrest.
He was later buried at the Municipal Cemetery in Pouso Alegre.
His alma mater, Sapucai Valley University, said in a statement: “It is with deepest regret that we mourn the death of our medical graduate, Dr Samuel Marcaccini Ribeiro.
“To the family, in the person of Professor Jomara Marcaccini, our condolences.”
It is not clear if police will investigate his death.
