Digital Surrealist Artist Alters Reality With His Amazing Photo Manipulations

Creating spectacular images like these is no easy job but the self-taught digital artist that made them has shown that with dedication and hours of work studying on the Internet, anything is possible.

The creations are all the work of Satya Mani, who is making waves in the online digital design and photography community with his works featured in some of the biggest online publications

Like many graphic artist professionals, he started out as a hobby photographer and discovered the advantages of being able to touch up photographs with special effects, which quickly led to a passion for photomanipulation and digital illustration.

He describes himself as a self-taught Digital Surrealist and comes from Hyderabad, in India, and said a friend had suggested that he had talent, and urged him to do more of his creative images.

Since then, he said: “I started exploring the medium more, to turn my intricate feelings into surreal visions that depict an ambiguous perspective on reality.”

Over the last four years he says he’s been constantly upgrading his digital design and photography methods to create the current artworks

He said: “Over the last four years I have constantly worked on my digital design and photography methods. I have changed my perspective many times along the way. I have learnt about the weightiness of composition, structure, rhythm, colour harmony, and relationships, the interaction of shapes through repetition, emphasis, and all the other aspects of visual communication.

“I am also training myself to be sensitive to nature, human, animal, sound, texture, fragrance, etc. Basically I am sharpening my powers of observation.

“With the internet, these days learning and connecting globally has become very easy.”

He added: “My first online public platform was also online on Instagram. I mostly use Instagram and other online platforms to share work and look up for inspiration. Justin, a digital artist from Toronto is one such inspiration I found on Instagram. I was literally blown away by his work when I first stumbled upon it. Since then I have spent a lot of time researching and reading about great artists and their work.”

He said the fact that large online sites were starting to feature his work was a huge boost.

He said: “I couldn’t even believe it was really happening. Recently I was also officially invited to take part in events at places ranging from Manipal University to the respected international business school in his hometown in Hyderabad.”

The list of invites is growing, and asked about advice to newcomers getting into the business, he said: “Work hard.”

He also admitted that his own journey into the medium is still far from over, saying: “I am 26 and I have a long way to go to better myself. So, my goal is to work day in and day out to create art that speaks to a global audience.”
