Dean Resigns After Saying Women Should Be Housewives

A university dean has announced his resignation after causing public outrage by refusing to vote for female candidates in an upcoming election and saying women should be “good housewives”.

Professor Mehmet Karali, Dean of the Aviation and Space Sciences Faculty at Necmettin Erbakan University in the Konya the offensive and sexist message to social media.

In the post, Karali wrote that it was more necessary for women to be “good housewives” and raise children than being ministers, businesswomen or mayors.

He added he would not vote for any female mayoral candidates in the upcoming elections.

The post was eventually deleted after reportedly being blasted by others users as offensive and sexist.

The Dean then announced his resignation from his post on social media after the outcry to his original post but said his views had been “taken out of context” and had caused damage to the university he worked at.

Karali wrote that his views came within the scope of freedom of expression and said his former position stopped him from being able to give a response to the criticism he had received.

The university are yet to comment on the matter.
