Deaf Baby Girl Bursts Into Tears After Hearing Mum’s Voice For First Time Ever

The heartwarming video depicts a deaf baby girl bursting into tears after hearing her mother’s voice for the first time with the help of a hearing implant.

Smartphone footage recorded in the city of Fuzhou, in China’s south-eastern province of Fujian, depicted the infant sitting in her mother’s lap at the doctor’s on 27th March.

At the beginning of the clip, she can be seen suckling on a pacifier with a cochlear implant, a small electronic device that can provide a sense of sound to deaf people, attached to her scalp.

However, as her mum took the pacifier out of her mouth, and the doctor began talking to her, the little one shed tears upon experiencing sound for the very first time.

As her mum attempted to calm her down, the infant started to cry even louder.

Chinese media revealed that the family had raised more than CNY 300,000 (GBP 32,883) to fund the implant for their daughter who was born deaf.

The mum, name not disclosed, said: “The moment the child heard, I also cried with joy.”

The video moved social media users on China’s version of TikTok, Douyin, leaving them unable to refrain from commenting.

Douyin user ‘Party party’ said: “The state should provide free cochlear implants to deaf-mute people.”

Then user ‘The third uncle of the Shi family’ commented: “The cochlear costs CNY 300,000? Can’t it be cheaper for the sake of poor children?

“I hope the country will take action! After all, there are too few families that can spend CNY 300,000 to buy cochlea for their children.”
