This is the moment a baby sea lion frolics in its zoo enclosure with its mum after visitors voted to name the cute pup Roland.
The pup was born at Berlin Zoo, the country’s oldest and best known zoo, in the German capital Berlin on 21st June.
In the footage shared on Berlin Zoo’s Facebook page, the little sea lion is seen playing in its enclosure with its mum.
Zoo spokesperson Cynthia told Real Press that the cute youngster is a Californian sea lion (Zalophus californianus) and was christened Roland after staff launched an online contest and received over 1,000 suggestions for names.
She added that the pup’s mother is 16-year-old Sandra and that Roland is her sixth offspring.
Cynthia told Real Press: “Sandra and her son Roland will spend time relaxing in a separate enclosure before joining the rest of the sea lion group.”
When Roland leaves the separate enclosure, he will meet his 20-year-old father Enzo.
Cynthia said: “Apart from Sandra, Enzo, and their youngest pup, there are eight other Californian sea lions at Berlin Zoo.”
She added: “Californian sea lions are significantly slimmer and more athletic than their relatives, seals.
“They still spend most of their time in the water. There they can reach speeds of up to 30 kph (18.6 mph) and dive to depths of 100 metres (328 feet).”
