Clever crow shows it has no birdbrain as it uses pebbles to get a drink from a bottle of water.
The crafty corvid had worked out that if it drops stones into the bottle, it raises the level of the water so it can reach it.
A wildlife lover was able to capture the bird in action at the Fusheng Liuji Ecological Park in the city of Huizhou, in south-eastern China’s Guangdong Province.
The video – shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok – shows the crow standing on a
piece of wood next to a half-empty water bottle.
But the crow seems to realise that it needs to raise the water level inside the bottle to reach it.
So, it hops around searching for tiny pebbles, which it picks up and drops down the bottle’s neck.
Stones too large to get down the neck are discarded.
Gradually the water level rises, allowing the crow to take a drink.
Seemingly impressed netizens commented, saying it looked like something out of a fable.
Staff from the park later told local media this was not the first time they have encountered such behaviour from the intelligent bird.
They went on to say they would even introduce the ‘crow drinking water’ as the park’s newest attraction.
The bird is domesticated, and staff will help guide it step by step during the performance.
A staff member said: “The crow itself is very spiritual.”
