Cops have rescued 24 dogs crammed into unhealthy conditions at an illegal breeding centre inside a tiny city apartment.
The raid was carried out in the neighbourhood of Caballito, in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, last week.
In a video of the raid, cops are seen entering the apartment, where dogs – mostly labradoodles – were being kept for potential customers.
Labradoodle pups can sell for up to GBP 3,000.
Many at the illegal farm were reportedly undernourished.
A pensioner husband and wife – reportedly in their 70s – in charge of the puppy farm have been placed under house arrest.
Police called the apartment a “clandestine dog breeding centre” and found animals in six rooms without access to the outside.
The dogs were being kept in overcrowded conditions that violated hygiene standards, and many of them were found to be malnourished.
Officials say the pups are now recovering at a nearby animal rescue centre.
Buenos Aires City Police said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Prosecutors instructed that the animals should be sent to a local NGO for care.
“For this reason, the City Police Dog Division was present to organise the transfer.
“A veterinarian from the City’s Animal Protection Agency (APRA) checked the animals, while a representative from the NGO Soplo de Vida cooperated in accordance with the court order.”
The investigation continues.
