Icelandic artist Yr Johannsdottir, better known as ‘Yrurari’, told local media: “I have been knitting as Yrurari since 2012. For the last couple of years I’ve been working on producing my ideas on second-hand sweaters instead of knitting them from scratch.”

The female designer, who is currently based in New York in the US, said that she made three sweaters for a recycling show last autumn and the ‘Sleikur’ (‘French Kiss’) design “became a hit on Instagram”.

Similar to the ‘Tongue and Lips’ logo designed by John Pasche and made famous by The Rolling Stones, Yrurari’s design features bright red lips and a pointing out tongue.

Following the brand’s online success, many people started contacting the young designer including the stylist of Miley Cyrus who reportedly bought the original sweater.

The sweater is called “Sleikur” which means French Kiss in Icelandic

She added: “A short while later, Erykah Badu contacted me and she’s been quite lovely.

“First she bought the only sweater I had left and then I got to meet her in person last week when she was in New York for a couple of days.”

Yrurari said that she plans on publishing the knitting pattern for the ‘French Kiss’ sweater that Miley Cyrus now owns.
