Bus Passenger Punches Kind Driver 32 Times

This is the moment a kindly driver who allowed a pregnant woman to exit his bus from the front is punched 32 times by a furious commuter who got on a few seconds late as a result.

The alleged attack was captured by a CCTV camera inside the route 178 bus in the city of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province in East China, on 12th September.

Bus driver Lu Bin, 31, said he had stopped at Jingtianlu metro station when his pregnant passenger prepared to get off.

Public transport conventions usually see bus passengers board from the front and exit the back, but the compassionate driver reportedly allowed the expectant mum to walk out the front doors which were closer.

According to Lu, who has been driving the number 178 for two years, the pregnant woman apparently delayed the couple’s boarding of the bus.

The wife yelled at him, he said, and her spouse then also joined in on the abuse.

CCTV footage shows the woman trying in vain to hold her husband back as the abuse turns physical, and the man strikes Lu – mainly on the head – no fewer than 32 times.

Lu does not retaliate and only attempts to shield his head and face, the video shows.

Lu, who was being treated at Nanjing’s Taikang Xianlin Drum Tower Hospital, recalled: “The passenger asked: ‘The rule is to get on using the front door and get off at the back. Why did you let her get off in the front?’

“I explained that the passenger was pregnant, and that it would’ve been inconvenient for her [to walk to the back], so I let her get off the front.

“As soon as the couple got on, they started abusing me.

“I started driving and, as I prepared to turn, the husband started hitting me.

“I managed to stop the bus, but he didn’t stop hitting me.

“He said the pregnant woman got in their way and stopped them from boarding the bus when she exited from the front.

“I guess they wanted to quickly find available seats, and that caused a delay.”

According to reports, the husband was later cornered in the bus by other passengers until Nanjing police arrived to make their arrest.

Witnesses reported hearing the husband threaten Lu, saying: “I’m going to beat you to death today!”

The suspect remains in custody on assault charges, but it is unclear whether his wife will be punished in the incident.

Lu suffered head injuries but was not in any life-threatening condition.
