A man who was caught travelling on a bus with 90 snakes, 236 spiders, and a centipede stuffed in two suitcases has been arrested.
The animals were discovered in the cargo area during a routine inspection of a bus from Bernardo de Irigoyen, bound for San Justo, in Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 10th March.
Ministry of National Security of Argentina said in a statement obtained by Newsflash on 12th March: “The Argentine National Gendarmerie, a force dependent on the Ministry of National Security, carried out a procedure in the province of Corrientes that culminated in the rescue of a large number of snakes, spiders and a centipede that were illegally transported in a long-distance bus.”
It added: “At the time of the inspection in the warehouse sector, the existence of live animals was detected inside two suitcases: in total, 90 snakes, 236 spiders of different species and a centipede were found.
“Given this situation, the gendarmes managed to identify the passenger who owned the luggage, who, by order of the Environmental and Rural Prosecutor’s Office of Santo Tome and the Flora and Fauna Office, was detained.
“The animals, meanwhile, were delivered to the province’s Wildlife Directorate.”
