Breeder Performs The Heimlich On Choking Panda

Panda gets saved by its breeder who performed the Heimlich manoeuvre after it accidentally chocked on a carrot.

The amazing rescue reportedly took place at the Dujiangyan Base of the China Conservation and Research Centre for Giant Pandas, in Chengdu, in south-western China’s Sichuan Province.

The giant panda – named Qingqing – needed urgent help after it got a piece of carrot lodged in its throat while eating.

Its breeder – surnamed Yang – rushed to the rescue and began smacking its back with his hand to get the carrot unstuck.

Yang then picked up the nearly 500-lbs bear and held it upright as he shook it back and forth until it apparently spat out the vegetable.

Footage of the breeder’s remarkable feat was later shared on Douyin – China’s version of TikTok – where he received praise from netizens.

Douyin user ‘Lord Du’ commented: “Breeder Yang really tried his best even though he could barely hold the panda.”

And user ‘Colorful lighting, Siemens switch’ said: “For a bear weighing more than 200 kilogrammes [440 lbs], it must have been quite difficult for the keeper doing the Heimlich method.”

Qingqing was reportedly born to mama bear Yao Man at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base for Giant Pandas on 18th August, 2015.

It now lives at the Dujiangyan Base with four other siblings, where it often attracts the attention of visitors for its naughty behaviour.

Zoo goers have reportedly even given it the nickname Crawling Coal – because it apparently loves rolling in dirt.
