Boy Died During Greek Island Swim

A teenage swimmer died on a holiday to Greece with pals when he suffered a massive heart attack during a dip in the sea.

Victim Demir Kandemir, 19, had been staying with friends on Rhodes but was on a day trip to nearby Symi island when he died.

His body was found floating in shallow water on the Agean Sea by horrified beachgoers on 12th September, reports local media.

Some tried to resuscitate him while they called for help but he was declared dead by paramedics when they arrived.

An autopsy found that sports-loving Demir had died from a heart attack.

Demir, from Cesme, Izmir Province, western Turkey, leaves behind a sister Ecem and dad Ugur. His mum Senem died from breast cancer seven years ago.

His body was taken to Turkey’s Fethiye Port by ferry to hold a funeral procedure at the Zeki Boyaci Mosque in his hometown.

Social media users were touched by the tragedy.

One ‘Aysen Ozen’ wrote: “May he rest in peace.”

‘Rasim Ozgul’ added: “My condolences to his family, relatives and loved ones.”

And ‘Salazanerkaradag’ commented: “This is very sad. May God give patience to his loved one.”
