Boy, 10, Dies After He Was Stung By Arachnid

This smiling 10-year-old boy seen here has died after he was stung by a scorpion.

Jose Guilherme Maracci was taken to hospital in the municipality of Nova Andradina, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul on Saturday, 9th December.

The boy, who was from Bataypora, then died on his way to Hospital da Vida, in Dourados, in the early hours of 10th December.

The Health Department of Bataypora received the death certificate, which listed the possible causes of death as scorpion sting. Cardiorespiratory arrest, acute respiratory distress syndrome and cellulitis from other locations, according to local media.

Jose Guilherme is said to be the fourth child to die from a scorpion sting this year in Mato Grosso do Sul.

Previously, a 5-year-old boy was the first death in Ribas do Rio Pardos.

Then, a 6-year-old child died for the same reason in Tres Lagoas. And a third case, of a 3-year-old girl, also in Ribas.

According to the State Department of Health, 3,623 cases involving scorpions have been reported in Mato Grosso do Sul from January to October this year.
