According to local newspaper El Universal, Zambrano was a former detective in the Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Unit of the Venezuelan police and had moved to Mexico for a better life, working as an Uber driver.
A message signed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel which was directed to the rival Cartel Del Noreste (CDN) was found with the remains.
The message read: “This is directed to you, Jesus Alberto Capella Ibarra, who sold the area of Quintana Roo to the Cartel Del Noreste […] you betrayed us, b*tch”.
Capella Ibarra is the State Secretary for Public Safety who has been mentioned in previous messages from cartels.
