Sloth Filmed Crawling Across Pavement In Lockdown

This is the moment a sloth is filmed slowly crawling across the pavement and up a tree in a popular tourist spot in Brazil during coronavirus lockdown.

The cute sloth was filmed at the Ponta Negra Tourist Complex in the city of Manaus in the northern Brazilian state of Amazonas on 26th April which has been partially shut down since 22nd March because of Brazil’s coronavirus lockdown.

The sloth, which is normally seen in the trees in the tourist complex, was filmed slowly crawling across the pavement by municipal guard Adriano Gomes.

In the clip the sloth can then be seen climbing back up the tree, turning to look at the camera as the guard says “goodbye!”.

Gomes said the sloth used the lack of movement in the area to go for a walk down the pavement.

He said: “There is another couple inhabiting the space. It was hot the day the cub went down in search of another tree, but he ended up getting lost and going for a walk on the pavement.”

Local media report the complex has been partially shut down, with the authorities turning off the lighting and the military police working in the area.

The state of Amazonas has been one of the worst-hit areas of Brazil by COVID-19 and the country as a whole has registered 67,446 confirmed cases of the virus with 4,603 deaths.
