Woman stumbles upon rain so local it only poured down in an area about the size of a small car.
The woman – not named in local media – managed to briefly capture the rare partial rain which treated residents of the city of Xi’an, in north-western China’s Shaanxi Province.
The video – shared later on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok – shows heavy rain pouring down on a small patch of pavement while the surrounding area remained dry.
Astonishingly, as the camera turns upwards, it shows an otherwise clear sky above the city.
The clip quickly went viral with nearly 100,000 likes and over 40,000 shares and sparked widespread discussions among netizens.
While partial rain is a rare occurrence, it is not entirely unheard of.
It is more commonly present in areas with warm and humid climates, capable of producing convective weather patterns and forming clouds that can create precipitation.
These clouds can be small and localised, resulting in isolated areas of rain.
Douyin users lightheartedly took to the social media platform in response to the video.
A user titled ‘Just listen to Xue Zhiqian’ commented: “It’s a little cloud that just learned how to drizzle.”
Another user titled ‘Happy’ wrote: “Maybe it’s just one little cloud that is not too happy.”
And user ‘Barcode gentleman’ commented: “There is a bug in the weather system.”
