An exceptionally rare giant gemstone dubbed the largest pear-shaped pink diamond to ever be offered at an auction is expected to fetch up to USD 35 million in Switzerland.
Standing at more than 18 carats the vividly coloured ‘Fortune Pink’ will lead the Geneva Magnificent Jewels sale as part of Christie’s Luxury Week.
The sparkling pink tear-drop-formed stone that stands attached to a ring circled by a large white diamond on each side will be auctioned on 8th November (Tuesday).
In its first time ever under the hammer it has been estimated between USD 25 million (GBP 23 million) and USD 35 million (GBP 32 million), according to Christie’s.
International head of Jewellery at Christie’s Rahul Kadakia said: “After The Rock, a 228 carat diamond sold this May in Geneva, Christie’s is proud to present The Fortune Pink, the largest pear-shaped fancy vivid pink diamond offered for sale at auction.”
According to the London-based auction house, the magnificent stone’s weight is considered a lucky number in Asia where it signifies “definite prosperity”.

Kadakia added: “With its auspicious weight of 18.18 carats this exceptional pink diamond of phenomenal colour will certainly bring good fortune to its new owner.”
Christie’s highlighted that the Fortune Pink will first be revealed in New York in the first week of October, before heading to Shanghai, Taiwan and Singapore.
They revealed in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “This rare diamond will then be on display to the public during Christie’s Luxury Week at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva from 2nd to 8th November.”
Christie’s senior jewellery specialist Angela Berden said: “It’s a beautiful stone, it’s extremely rare to find a pink diamond, vivid pink diamond, of this size.

“The colour saturation of this stone is… so difficult to find in nature, and then when you find a crystal… with that weight, with that colour, and a very good clarity, that’s just really rare.
“I wouldn’t know where to find another one at this moment.”
Christie’s also made a special mention of some other larger cushion-shaped pink diamonds that have previously been auctioned.
One of them, the 18.96-carat Winston Pink Legacy reached over USD 50 million (GBP 46 million) in 2018 and set a world record price per carat for a pink diamond sold at an auction.
Meanwhile, the 37.3-carat Raj Pink gem failed to sell at a Sotheby’s auction a year earlier, where it had been estimated at up to USD 30 million.
