Mutant Chick Born With Four Legs

This mutant chick born with two extra legs may not be able to walk very well but it could still become the new norm for farming as it offers two extra drumsticks with every bird.

The chick that hatched to a free-range mother hen came from an egg laid in the town of Lumbreras, in the Argentinian province of Salta.

The local farmers that own the mother hen found the mutant chick near the Juramento River on the night of 23rd September. The footage shows the newborn chick with its four legs completely formed.

According to the family, the hen that gave birth to the chick does not have any abnormalities, and apart from the extra legs the chick was also formed normally and consistent with its siblings.

The only difference is the two abnormal legs positioned on the back, which means that it can not use them or lean on them, and they do not allow it to move around as easily as its siblings.

But despite the difficulty the owners expect the animal to grow as the others have.

It is believed the deformity is a mutation which involves a change in the nucleotide sequence of the DNA probably caused by environmental factors like pollution.

This condition is not necessarily transmitted, which means that the chick’s offspring are not likely to inherit this abnormality.
