A horrified diner has told how his wife found a slug in her Burger King meal and accused the fast food giant of ignoring their complaint.
Disgusted Luciana was just about to bite into her Chicken Junior burger on 3rd January when she spotted the slimy slug on a piece of lettuce.
But when her husband Walif de Souza, 24, complained, the manager of the branch in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, offered them a GBP-1.60 refund and told them: “Do what you think’s best.”
Walif recalled: “The manager came to the table, took a picture. I don’t know where he sent it.
“He said it wasn’t their fault, because the salad comes vacuum-packed. They take it out and put it on the bun.
“He asked an employee to return the value of the sandwich, which was BRL 10 [GBP 1.60].”
He added that the branch manager then “turned his back and said it was for us to do what we thought was best”.
Walif said he had not wanted to publicly denounce the branch at first.
But when he and his wife received no response from the company after filing a complaint online, he decided to go public a week later, on 10th January.
He told local media he had received no contact from Burger King.
In a statement, Burger King Brazil said: “We inform you that we follow strict hygiene controls in the preparation of our sandwiches to guarantee the quality of the products, offering a positive and safe experience to all our consumers.
“Regarding the reported case, the company informs that it is already in contact with the consumer for assistance and, in addition, is investigating the fact with the restaurant team.”
