This is the haunting last photo of a 16-year-old girl just moments before she was thrown and killed by the horse she is seen riding.
Thais Pereira Rodrigues had mounted her dad’s horse at a cowboy tournament at the family farm in Granja, Ceara state, Brazil, on 10th July.
The farm had been hosting a vaquejada event, where a pair of wranglers ride alongside a bull as close as they dare.
But moments after her mum had taken the snap, the horse spooked and stampeded towards woodland with Thais still in the saddle.
Her mother ran after the animal, but she found her daughter lying unconscious among the trees minutes later.
The teen was taken to an emergency care unit, but died of severe head injuries.
She was buried on Monday.
Thais was an only child and loved animals, said her family. She was taking a technical course in agriculture.
Her school said: “We extend our condolences to her family and friends for the irreparable loss.”
