Gorillas Smashing Pumpkins As Halloween Approaches

This is the moment Abeeku the gorilla finds a nifty way of splitting open its pumpkin ahead of Halloween.

However, as seen in the footage, little Kio does not appear to have learned the knack of opening pumpkins yet.

The cute clip was filmed at Leipzig Zoo in the eastern German state of Saxony and the footage was later shared on Facebook.

Leipzig Zoo accompanied the video with the message: “Male gorilla Abeeku splits open his pumpkin!

“Halloween is in sight and our silverback Abeeku has already put his pumpkin aside and has a plan for how he can get to the delicious seeds.”

In the video, Abeeku is seen taking the pumpkin to a rocky ledge where he uses his body strength to push down on it, causing the winter squash to split.

The gorilla then tears off the top and tucks in.

Little Kio then takes its pumpkin to a rocky ledge, but apparently, the infant gorilla hasn’t learned the knack of splitting it open yet.

Leipzig Zoo said: “This proves that great apes work in a solution-oriented manner. And the youngest gorilla, little Kio, has also secured his own pumpkin, because he knows only too well how delicious they taste.”

The zoo added: “We wish you a nice holiday week and lots of creepy fun during Halloween!”

Facebook user ‘Bogdan Belciug’ commented: “They are more human than we are.”

Netizen ‘Eva-Maria Kuhn’ said: “He’s quite the clever animal and he does it so skilfully… Enjoy it!”
