Car and its passengers felt the power of Mother Nature as a hailstorm shattered the sunroof, directly exposing them to the elements.
The storm caught the group off guard while on a trip to Jinhai Lake, in south-western China’s Guizhou Province.
Phone footage – shared later on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok – shows the car’s busted windshield as hail and rain pour in through the shattered sunroof onto the passengers.
The person filming shows off several pieces of hailstone – as large as golf balls – that have fallen inside the car and caused severe damage.
The driver appears to have numerous bleeding cuts on his arm as he shields himself from the hail using a cushion.
Similarly, the passenger sitting next to him is also holding up a pillow to prevent getting injured.
Witnesses described the hailstones as heavy and dense, causing them to feel more like bricks raining down from the heavens, local media said.
The hailstorm was also responsible for smashing through several rooftops in the province.
The incident sparked heated discussions among Douyin users, with many of them pointing out the impractical side of sunroofs in vehicles.
A user titled ‘Window’ commented: “I now found out how nice and safe it is to buy a car without a sunroof.”
