Barbaric zoogoer smirks as he hurls rocks at a defenceless lioness in her enclosure.
Footage of the thug’s behaviour at a zoo in the city of Yantai, Shandong Province, was caught on a smartphone and later shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.
In the clip, a man wearing a red jacket and black trousers walks up to the safety barrier and sees a lioness relaxing in the sun beside a natural cliff.
He seems to throw one rock which lands short, then he flings a second.
It sails so close to the big cat she tries to catch it in her mouth, apparently thinking it is a treat to eat.
Beside him are a baby in a buggy and a woman wearing a baseball cap.
As he turns away from the enclosure, the man smirks and says (in Chinese): “If they release it, it will probably eat me.”
Enraged netizens demanded an investigation and that the man should be punished for his actions.
One Douyin user – ‘Yaya Planting Grass’ – said in a comment: “Let the lioness out and make his wish come true.”
User ‘Meier’ said: “Such people should be banned entrance by the zoo.”
Many also pointed out it will teach the child seen in the stroller next to him to wrong behaviour.
Zoo staff later responded to the controversial video and claimed they will report the case to police.
They have also promised to strengthen supervision in the future.
