Customs police have seized gold bars worth more than GBP 50,000 stashed inside wireless game controllers found after airport X-Ray checks.
The eight handsets – being sent by air freight from Brazil to Hongkong – each contained one gold ingot weighing 125 grammes (4.4 ounces) with a total value of EUR 60,000 (GBP 51,600).
Each bar had been wrapped in black gaffer tape before it was hidden inside the controllers, said German customs spokesman Philipp Mitteldorf.
The golden stash was found in a scanner check as the package passed through Leipzig/Halle Airport in Saxony, eastern Germany, on 25th July.
Officials only released details of the trafficking on 1st November to avoid endangering the police investigations.
The Saxony Crime Office and the Leipzig State Prosecution are continuing their investigations of a potential case of money laundering.
