14-Year-Old Italian Boy Dies After Mosquito Bite

A 14-year-old Italian lad has died in hospital after being bitten by a mosquito.

Tragic Matteo Chieu from Tolmezzo near Udine, Italy, had gone on holiday with his mum, Denise Farias, to Brazil in mid-June.

He had just finished his first year at Paschini High School and was looking forward to spending time with his extended family in his mum’s home country.

It was the second year in a row he had made the long-haul trip to the tropics to see his relatives.

However, while staying with his mum’s family in Salinopolis, Para state, he was bitten by a mosquito.

The bite was so painful, Matteo needed medical treatment.

The circumstances surrounding his downturn are still unclear, but it is known that the treatment was ineffective and he had to be admitted to hospital.

When the worst was feared, Matteo’s dad Roberto, who owns a shoe store in Tolmezzo called Boutique della Pelle, made the long trip to Brazil to be by his son’s side in hospital.

The couple were at Matteo’s bedside when he passed away on 28th July, Italian media reported.

His funeral is set to take place today (31st July) ahead of his cremation.

Denise wrote on social media: “We appreciate all the prayers and messages of love and affection during this very painful time for all of us who have known this very special angel.”

Eros dal Cin, the headmaster of Matteo’s school, also paid tribute to the deceased lad, writing: “My heart is truly shattered.

“Matteo was a good boy, polite, and a friend to everyone. A young man with many interests, who loved swimming and the pool. He was a brilliant and curious mind.”
