This footage shows an obese black panther waddling around its enclosure with difficulty, nearly dragging its belly with it as it goes.
The incident took place at the Chengdu Zoo in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in China, with the images shared online on 9th March.
The video shows the black panther apparently shyly trying to hide behind a tree, but its large belly makes it very easy to spot.
It eventually emerges from behind the tree and waddles across the enclosure, its huge belly clearly difficult for it to manage.
The zoo told local media on 10th March that the black panther was very old, saying they had a male aged 20 years old and a female aged 16 years old. Which is the panther seen in the footage.
The zoo said that the black panther’s body functions and metabolism were not good.
But another report quoted the zoo as saying that the zoo’s animals were too fat because they ate too much, with a keeper saying: “We are reducing the amount of food! We will start by reducing the beef and other things.”
Netizens were amazed at the black panther’s belly, with one saying: “I laughed hard. I thought she was pregnant, but it turned out that she was overweight. Please ask her to exercise more.”
