A young woman has reportedly confessed to killing her own three children aged between nine months and four years by strangling them with her bare hands as they slept in their beds.
Paulina N. admitted to three counts of murder before the Lublin District Prosecutor’s Office in the south-eastern Polish city of the same name.
According to the autopsy’s preliminary findings, the 26-year-old mother strangled her three children with her bare hands as they were lying in their beds and cot.
The victims were a boy, 4; a girl, 2; and another girl aged just nine months.
The children’s bodies were found by their maternal grandmother, Danuta N., after she turned up at her daughter’s house in central Lublin to visit the youngsters.
She reportedly tried to save the children and called for help, but it was too late, and paramedics who arrived at the residence were only able to pronounce them dead.
The mother was immediately arrested.
At the time of reporting, the prosecutor’s office said they were considering making the suspect undergo a psychiatric examination to determine if she is of sound mind.
It has already been established that she was not under the influence of any mind-altering substances at the time of the crime.

A court ordered her preventive detention for three months on Friday, 1st October. She could face life in prison if found guilty of the murders in court.
According to Polish news channel TVN24, the suspect moved to Lublin with her children just a few months prior to the crime.
She had reportedly been seeking help from the Municipal Family Support Centre regarding a spousal maintenance settlement.
TVN24 reported that she was the victim of domestic violence at the hands of the children’s father, who had already been arrested by the police.
The investigation is ongoing.
