An Indian alcoholic has been arrested for stealing a human hand from a corpse before asking his wife to cook the gruesome body part, causing her to faint and then call the cops.
The incident took place in the city of Bijnor in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh when the suspect, identified only as 32-year-old Sanjay, came home with a human hand for the family’s dinner, according to local media.
The alcoholic man showed the body part to his wife who fainted on the spot, according to reports.
When she regained consciousness, she reportedly saw human fingers poking out of the frying pan and ran to a neighbour’s house, locking her husband indoors.
The woman called the police from the neighbour’s home and Sanjay was promptly arrested.
A preliminary investigation showed that the suspect had obtained the hand from a nearby crematorium.
Police spokesperson R.C. Sharma told local media: “We visited the man’s house and found the human flesh. Officers have detained the accused.”
Sharma added that the hand was obtained from the banks of the River Ganges where dead bodies are commonly cremated.
The investigation is ongoing.
