Viral Clips Of Huge Tornado Carving Trail Of Destruction

These are the viral videos of a huge tornado that spun a trail of destruction, overturning buses, destroying property and sending civilians fleeing across southern Romania.

The incident took place in the small town of Drajna in the southern Romanian county of Prahova just outside the capital Bucharest and videos were widely shared on social media.

One Facebook post viewed 1.8 million times shows the huge twister tearing up a field as the cameraperson driving in a car tries to speed away from it.

In another video seen 1.5 million times, the tornado is seen moving towards a building as people run outside to the car park to jump in cars and minibuses.

According to reports, the tornado, which is considered rare in Romania, overturned a bus and injured eight passengers.

Romania’s Baragan region was on a code orange alert on Tuesday as heavy rainfall and strong winds caused severe disruptions and power cuts.

Reports said that over 400 homes were left without electricity later the same evening.

Southern Romania is on a reduced code yellow alert for Wednesday 1st May.

According to experts from the Romanian National Meteorology Agency (ANM), the tornado appeared when a cold atmospheric front collided with warm air after high temperatures led to the formation of several large cumulonimbus clouds in the region.

The last recorded twister in the country occurred in August 2002 in the county of Ialomita, and it damaged over 400 houses and killed a woman and child while 14 residents were also injured.
