A nurse, cleaner, and porter were selected in the “Svijetli primjer” (Bright Example) campaign on Wednesday. The selection covered Split and the surrounding area, with the aim of shining a spotlight on anonymous ordinary people who diligently perform their jobs and thus help the wider community.
The jury, consisting of Djordana Barbarić, known for her humanitarian and social work, Stipe Božić, world famous mountaineer and frequent participant in rescue operations; and Dr. Ivan Urlić, a respected and award-winning psychiatrist from Split, chose the following three “Bright Examples”:
– Marija Vrgoč – a nurse with nearly 40 years of work in the Emergency Admission Department at KBC Split.
– Anđa Gaurina – a cleaner at the municipal company Čistoća for a full 30 years. She is retiring in a few days, but due to her inability to attend, her award was accepted on her behalf by the director of Čistoća, Andrija Čaljkušić.
– Marijan Grbavac – a long-time porter at the Center for Social Welfare in Split, but also an actor, humorist, and active in many areas of community life.
The campaign was initiated by the company Čulić Elektro Centar from Solin, which has been involved in lighting for decades and wanted to “illuminate” ordinary people who, though anonymous, serve as a bright example in the community through their work. Citizen nominations were collected over the past month, after which the jury selected those they considered bright examples – although the campaign is actually a pre-Christmas tribute to all ordinary people who conscientiously perform their jobs for the benefit of the community.
At the appropriate event hosted by radio presenter Jasna Damjanović, the selected participants in the “Bright Example” campaign were also presented with paintings specially created for this occasion by the renowned Split artist Tisja Kljaković Braić.
