Turtle Tangled In Plastic Waste Off Brit Holiday Isle

This photo of a sea turtle tangled up in floating plastic waste off the coast of Bali has been widely shared on social media.

The incident took place off an unspecified part of the Balinese coast in southern Indonesia and was shared on social media by the environmental organisation 4Ocean where it has been widely circulated.

Photos of the poor reptile, which appears to be a green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), swimming amongst plastic waste were accompanied with the message: “Our Bali Cleanup Crew was out doing what they do best, cleaning the ocean when they spotted this turtle.

The activists continued to clean the waters after rescuing the turtle

“They were able to untangle the turtle and continue cleaning the ocean to prevent other turtles from getting stuck.”

According to reports, Indonesia is considered the second-largest producer of plastic marine waste on the planet after China.

Meanwhile, 4Ocean was set up by a pair of surfers following a trip to Bali that would “inevitably change their lives and the fate of the ocean”, according to their website.

Headed by Alex and Andrew, the NGO sells bracelets made from recycled materials to raise money for cleanup operations.

4Ocean claims that for every bracelet sold, 1lb of waste is removed from the seas.

They have carried out cleanup operations in 27 different countries and recently opened their headquarters in Bali, according to reports.

Bali is a popular tourist destination for visitors from many countries including Britain.
