Triad Gangsters With AK-47s And Grenades Storm Car Shop

Two Triad gangsters on the run from the police stormed a car dealership with Kalashnikovs and hand grenades, holding nine people hostage when they failed to acquire a getaway vehicle.

The suspects named as Lin You-ju, 38, and his accomplice Lin Hung-fu, 22, had reportedly arranged money and a getaway car from the dealership’s owner – but his staff were unaware and refused to hand over the cash.

CCTV footage from the city of Taoyuan in North Taiwan shows the suspects, who are not related despite sharing the same surname, inside the office of the Ming Shih dealership holding modified AK-47s bought off the black market.

The car dealership where the hostage situation unfolded

The pair, who are members of Taiwan’s Triad group ‘Tiandao League’, reportedly entered the used-car dealership at 5:50pm local time on 12th June demanding a getaway vehicle and money.

The gangsters had been on the run ever since shooting up a Taoyuan motel with an Uzi on 26th May.

However, staff members who were unaware of their boss’s promise to lend the Triads emergency money and one of his cars were unwilling to hand over the good.

They reportedly fired two shots into the ceiling and rounded up the owner, who they suspected of going back on his word, and eight of his employees, placing the group in their office.

A ninth staff member called the police after they were allowed to leave in order to withdraw money for the gangsters.

The five-hour stand-off began when armed police, including Taiwan’s Thunder Squad SWAT unit, surrounded the building.

Hostages leaving the car dealership

The suspects, who had two Kalashnikovs, six sidearms and grenades, fired two more shots into the ground in a bid to scare away the police.

Local authorities contacted the family members of the hostage takers and used them during their negotiations with the wanted gangsters.

At 7pm, negotiators were allowed to leave with two female employees.

At 10:30pm three more were released, and the remaining four were rescued 25 minutes after that.

Lin You-ju and Lin Hung-fu reportedly gave themselves up and handed over their weapons at just 11:15pm, bringing the hostage situation to a close.

Taiwan National Police Agency Director Chen Ja-chin told local media that nobody was injured during the ordeal, which is still being investigated.
