Cat traders killed dozens of cats by dumping them into a ditch in sacks to dispose of them in order to hide evidence from police when animal activists raised the alarm.
The incident occurred in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China, on 6th July.
Online sources recently claimed that concerned people had raised the alarm that cat traders were carrying cats for the meat trade.
The sellers allegedly threw the cats into a ditch, where they perished in order to get rid of the evidence before the police found them with the pets. Many of the cats suffocated as a result of being stuffed in non-breathable fertiliser bags, rescuers discovered.
The police were already looking into the event, according to the street office.
Online commentators like ‘Huahua’ said: “Poor fur babies.”

While the user ‘YaoYao’ said: “Rabbit meat sold in many places is actually cat meat.”
