A dad-of-two has been arrested for tying up his beaten surgeon girlfriend and stabbing her to death.
The incident took place in the district of Tetuan in the central Spanish capital Madrid where 46-year-old crane operator Tomas Jimenez Rojo allegedly killed his 48-year-old girlfriend and mother-of-one, Pilar Cardenoso Payo, at her home.
The police found the surgeon’s body after Jimenez Rojo’s friend called the cops when the suspect sent him a photo of the corpse and asked him to help cover up the crime, according to local media.
However, the suspect had already fled the property.
Reports said that the victim’s hands and feet were tied and she was stabbed in the neck with a knife.
Her body also showed signs of physical assault, according to local media.
On the day after the alleged murder, Jimenez Rojo’s ex-wife reportedly filed a complaint that he had threatened to kill her in the past.
He was arrested after being recognised by a resident, despite reportedly cutting his hair and shaving off part of his beard.
He is said to have told cops: “Yes, it was me. I am Tomas, the one who murdered the woman.”
The motive for the alleged murder is currently unclear.
Meanwhile, local media said that the victim was frequently abused by her partner and never reported him, despite one public incident in November 2018.
The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear if the suspect has been charged.
