This is the hilarious showdown moment when a small dog realises it is in for the ruff-ing up of its life if it puts one paw out of place.
Phone footage from Hebei Province, northern China, shows the nervous pooch suddenly coming whisker to whisker with eight menacing moggies.
As it sets out for walkies, it suddenly spots the tough-looking strays blocking its way up a hill.
Then after taking in the sinister, motionless cats, it clearly thinks better than getting too close and trots back towards its owner.
The video went viral with nearly two million likes and over 200,000 comments on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.
Netizens joked that they could feel the awkwardness of the situation through their phone screens.
Douyin user ‘TERRY’ said in a comment: “The leader of the stay cat gang sent them out to fight the dog.”
Another user – ‘e-manager’ – commented: “Why do the four black cats look like unlocked game characters?”
While user ‘phantom’ wrote: “The group of cats looks very tough, even four big dogs may not dare to pass when they see these eight cats blocking the way.”
And user ‘green orange acridine’ said: “Seeing this lineup, who wouldn’t walk the other way?”
