This is the moment a teacher slaps a schoolboy’s glasses off his face and then smashing his mobile phone in front of all his classmates.

The incident happened at Yangguang Middle School in the city of Huai’an in East China’s Jiangsu Province on 8th April.

Local education officials said the teacher, who has not been named, has since suspended over the incident, which is believed to have started after the pupil refused to hand over his mobile phone.

It is still unclear whether the schoolboy was caught using the mobile device in class, but reports said the teenager refused to give it to his teacher when asked to.

In the shocking clip, the teacher demands the phone and slaps the boy’s glasses off his face when he does not do as he is told.

He then appears to slap him a second time, with the schoolboy placing his phone on his desk before walking away.

The teacher asks the person filming – also thought to be a student – to follow him to the front of the class, where he holds up the Chinese-made Oppo phone.

The teacher says the phone is worth about 1,500 RMB (170 GBP), claiming he “can afford” to break it.

He then proceeds to smash the phone on the floor, splitting it in half, before repeating the action two more times.

The Huai’an education bureau said in a statement today (10th April) it had suspended the teacher pending an investigation.

He has been ordered to apologise to the pupil and his family.
