Swiss Zoo Launches Research Station For Species Conservation

The video shows the brand-new research station for species conservation that was launched by a zoo in Switzerland.

Footage from the zoo in Zurich shows the new station designed to offer insights into the zoo’s scientific work, demonstrating how knowledge is created to preserve biodiversity.

Zurich Zoo said in a statement obtained by Clipzilla on 18th December: “Above the aquarium and next to the terrarium is the zoo’s new research station.

“Research and breeding, which previously mostly took place in the background, are now visible and tangible for our guests, both big and small.

“The zoo has a specific goal: We conduct research to protect animal species, preserve nature and deepen knowledge – in the zoo and among our guests.”

It continued: “Six research rooms provide insights and findings that were previously not possible in the zoo.

“Some of these rooms function like climate chambers: temperature, humidity and light conditions are precisely controlled and documented.

“Nature is simulated 1:1, which enables optimal breeding conditions. Highly endangered lizards, frogs, insects and fish can be observed directly during courtship and breeding behaviour.

“Opposite the six research rooms, three new habitats have been created on two levels. Endangered species of marmosets have moved in there.

“They will also be on display in the Pantanal aviary later.

“The spacious free-flight aviary in the entrance area of the new research station is home to seven species of birds, some of which are highly endangered, and the Chinese striped turtle, which is threatened with extinction.”
