The Swiss phone number 076 777 77 77 has been put up for sale for a whopping CHF 100,000.
That is GBP 87,916, with the number being put on sale on the Swiss e-commerce site Ricardo.
It can be bought immediately for CHF 100,000, with bids also possible to 21st March.
The auction started at CHF 10 (GBP 8.79) and is currently at CHF 11,020 (GBP 9,689).
The mobile phone number has been described as a status symbol. The number ‘7’ is often considered lucky in Western culture.
The auction text reads: “Secure one of the most exclusive phone numbers in Switzerland: 076 777 77 77.
“This unique, memorable number will stylishly distinguish you or your company. Whether for personal or business purposes, this number guarantees attention and recognition.
“This exclusive opportunity is aimed at serious buyers who value individuality and prestige. Please feel free to send your offers or questions directly.”
Shortly after it went on sale, the message “Item successfully sold” appeared.
But the seller, who has not been identified, said: “The auction is being restarted because a child accidentally clicked on ‘Buy It Now’.
“To ensure fairness, there will be another chance for all interested parties. Thank you for your understanding!”
