A stunned vet operating on a very naughty pup found no less than 24 socks in its stomach among 44 items it had swallowed.
Luna, who is a seven-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog, was rushed for emergency surgery at the Corona Animal Emergency Center in Corona, California, USA, after she started vomiting.
Dr Jenny Elwell-Gerken and her team were shocked to find her stomach full with 24 socks, 15 pieces of cloth, a hair scrunchie, a small onesie, and a shoe insert.
Dr Elwell-Gerken told local media on Thursday, 27th February: “We all laughed at how big the stomach was because it was bigger than any stomach I’ve ever seen that was full of things.”
She said that the onesie had caused an intestinal obstruction.
The items were safely removed from Luna’s body during a 45-minute operation, with the doctor saying that she believes the dog swallowed the items the same day or the day before.
Dr Elwell-Gerken said that there were so many items in the dog’s stomach that it had stretched and it took “several minutes to pull out all of the things”.
She said that some of the items “were stretched enough in the intestinal system that there would’ve been some pretty significant damage to those intestines” if her owner had not brought her in.
Luna reportedly has a history of eating socks but she usually passes them without problem.
