According to reports, cat owner Asrul found his dead pet outside his flat and initially thought that it had been poisoned as it was frothing at the mouth.
He later found out that a neighbour had placed the dead cat outside his flat after finding the animal hanged by its neck on a staircase.
Asrul then saw the CCTV footage, telling local media: “His first attempt failed as the cat ran off. He chased it and attempted a second time which resulted in the cat choking to death.”
He added that the man in the footage is apparently not a resident of the block of flats.
The distraught pet owner said: “I took care of this cat for three years and he made the cat suffer until it died.”
Asrul filed a complaint with the local police, adding that he hopes the culprit is “handed a just punishment so it serves as a lesson to other people not to treat animals like that.”
Police spokesperson Muhammad Najib Hamzah said that they are investigating the incident and every effort is “being made to track down the suspect”.
