The footage was obtained from a local surveillance camera on 22nd July and shows the incident in the district of Balcova, in the Turkish province of Izmir.

The video shows a man stepping beneath the building site at the exact moment the platform above him drops, plunging from height along with lumps of masonry.

Passers-by can be seen sprinting towards the wreckage within seconds to rescue the man buried underneath it.

The collapse happened at around 5pm on 17th July on Cagdas Street in the Koruturk neighbourhood, where painters were working on the exterior of a building.

The rope holding the scaffolding snapped and the structure came down with a loud crash, injuring three brothers identified only by their initials as D.K., V.K. and I.K.

Emergency medical crews and firefighters were sent to the site and treated the casualties at the scene after pulling them from the debris.

All three men were taken by ambulance to Dokuz Eylul University Hospital, where their treatment is continuing.

The brother who was pinned beneath the falling platform took heavy blows and reportedly remains in a life-threatening condition, while the two who fell from the structure are said to be in a good condition and out of danger.

Firefighters carrying out an initial assessment at the site believe fragments breaking away from the wall to which the scaffolding was anchored may have dropped onto it and severed the ropes.

An investigation launched by police into the circumstances of the collapse is still under way.
