Russian Troops In War Games With Dog Sleds, Snowmobiles

This is the moment Russian marines travel silently using a dogsled through the winter landscape as part of a training exercise.

Footage shows the dogs running through the snow during war games, with the animals far quieter than the snowmobiles which the marines were also training with.

The training exercises were carried out by members of the Russian Pacific Fleet at the Radyghino range in the far-eastern Russian region of Kamchatka Krai.

The region is part of the taiga, also known as the snow forest, which is the world’s largest land biome and covers most of inland Canada and Alaska as well as parts of the northern United States.

In the footage, marines are seen using skis and dog sleds to navigate the snowy terrain.

In one part of the training footage they arrive at a clearing when they fall under enemy fire.

The team appears to detain a man and put him on a snowmobile trailer.

A Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) press statement said: “In Kamchatka, the Pacific Fleet of marines used elements of combat training with the use of snowmobiles and dog teams.”

The taiga region is well known for its snowy terrain between late autumn and April which makes it difficult to cross in armoured vehicles.

The statement added: “Such methods of transport are needed for the snowy conditions to allow the mobile groups of marines to successfully navigate the rugged terrain and operate in the taiga.”

The MoD said the marines had been training with snowmobiles and dog teams in groups of six ahead of the exercise.
