Russia Is Developing An AI Powered Assault Rifle So Accurate It Almost Never Misses Its Target

Russia is designing an AI-powered assault rifle that uses neural networks to aim, meaning it almost never misses its target, lining up a shot perfectly even at long range without any input from the soldier.

Sergey Urzhumtsev, the chief designer of JSC Kalashnikov Concern, said that certain features of the ‘smart’ Kalashnikov were presented to Sergey Shoigu, the head of the Russian Ministry of Defence at the ‘Army-2021’ international military-technical forum in Kubinka, Russia.

He explained that the technology would allow the user of the gun to hit targets at long distances with incredible accuracy, as the AI system would calculate small details including wind direction and the target’s movement when lining up the shot.

The chief designer of Kalashnikov Concern Sergei Urzhumtsev are developing new weapons using elements of artificial intelligence, to almost completely automate the processes of identification, aiming and target tracking, as well as the execution of a shot, in Russia, in September, 2021.

The weapon is expected to be particularly important in difficult conditions experienced during night missions or in places of extreme weather where a soldier is unable to aim accurately.

He said: “The shooter will essentially only be required to give the gun permission to fire, as it will line the shot up perfectly without human input.”

The assault rifle will integrate a variety of optical and electronic devices into a single weapons system, allowing it not only to help with aiming but also deciding when the optimal moment is to pull the trigger.

This technology will allow the weapon to identify, aim and track targets with extremely high accuracy, only requiring the soldier to give it permission to fire.

He said that his company hopes to get the support of the Ministry to open a research and development base where the weapon can be perfected and produced on a large scale.

More details on the development of the weapon and how long it will take before going into production were not released.

As of today (22nd September), no images of the assault rifle have been made public.
