Restaurant Boss Paints Over Road Markings Affecting Business

A desperate restaurant owner has been caught painting over double-line road markings which have affected his business by preventing drivers from turning into his car park.

Traffic camera footage from the city of Suzhou in China’s eastern Jiangsu Province shows the boss surnamed Zhu taking matters into his own hands on 19th December.

Zhu, 40, owns a restaurant on the side of the main road which was recently marked with double yellow lines in order to decrease the prevalence of traffic accidents in the area.

The road markings mean that drivers who might have previously turned directly into his restaurant car park now have to do a U-turn further up the road.

Zhu believes this extra, inconvenient step is turning potential customers away – and having a negative effect on his business as a result.

CCTV footage shows him finally having enough of the new traffic rules and seeking to change the road markings with a bucket of black paint.

He can be seen drawing several lengths of black lines over the yellow markings in an attempt to create turning zones, allowing customers to more easily reach his restaurant.

The police detained Zhu and brought him back for questioning, during which he revealed his desperate measures for desperate times.

He was found guilty of illegally changing road markings and fined 2,000 RMB (229 GBP) for the offence.
