Pretty Yemeni Activist Under Fire For Taking Off Hijab

This pretty Yemeni activist has been slammed for posting snaps of her taking off her hijab while referring to herself as a “victim of religion”.

Yemeni activist Basma Nasser posted a series of photos on her Twitter account showing the different stages of removing a hijab with the message: “I was a victim of religion, customs and traditions, but I freed myself from the limitations of patriarchy. My body is only mine.”

While Nasser’s post was supported in certain corners, many netizens slammed her apparently religious statement.

Netizen ‘MissSarooya’ said: “And I actually believed you were committed to Islam… so sad about the path you’ve taken.”

‘Alaaism2019’ wrote: “You don’t understand what personal freedom is. Here I am, working for an international company and still wearing my hijab. Freedom doesn’t mean taking off the hijab. Even foreigners respect it, why don’t you?”

However, ‘Hmdi34440350’ remarked: “Congratulations. Here’s to freedom and liberation.”

A hijab is a veil worn by many Muslim women, typically in the presence of any male outside their immediate family, which usually covers the head and chest.

The Quran instructs both Muslim men and women to dress in a modest way, but there is disagreement on how these instructions should be interpreted.

Muslim girls and women have fallen victim to honour killings in the West and elsewhere for refusing to wear the hijab or for wearing it in a way considered to be improper.

In recent years, a growing number of women wearing hijabs have been subjected to verbal and physical attacks in Western countries.
