Precious Footage Of Tiger Family Playing Together

This rare footage released by researchers shows a family of five wild Siberian tigers that appear to be thriving in a special protection area set aside to support the species’ survival.

The four Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) cubs and their much larger mother were recorded by infrared cameras inside the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park on 10th May 2018.

Staff members sorting through myriad archive videos in the city of Hunchun in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in north-eastern China’s Jilin Province found and announced the discovery this week.

The valuable footage shows the family of five appearing directly in front of the camera traps while relaxing in the forest shade.

The four lively cubs can be seen running back and forth around their mum as they play with one another.

The tiger family in the national park

Researchers say this is yet another indication that Siberian tiger numbers are growing in the national park inaugurated in August 2017.

Last year, observers concluded that at least three tiger families, including seven cubs, permanently resided within the boundaries of the park, which is spread between the north-eastern provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang.

The park borders China’s neighbours Russia and North Korea, and the animals have been recorded regularly moving back and forth as they roam their large territory.

By the end of 2017, 26 Siberian tigers and 42 Amur leopards (Panthera pardus orientalis) had been spotted in the park.
