Polar Bear Scared By Foghorns After Walking Into Port

This is the moment an inquisitive polar bear climbs into a Russian port over a barbed wire fence before workers scare it away with loud alarm sounds and foghorns.

The incident took place at the port of Sabetta in northern Russia’s Yamal peninsula after the polar bear (Ursus maritimus) walked onto the facility.

In the video, the bear can be seen trying to climb over a fence topped with barbed wire.

The animal pulls down the barbed wire and tries to climb over the fence but fails at the first attempt before succeeding on its second try.

The bear can then be seen walking in a channel between two fences before it reaches the snowy port.

An alarm then sounds out and the bear can be seen running away from it before another alarm is then used to scare the bear.

Another clip shows the foghorn of a large ship being used to scare it away as onlookers laugh.

Local media report the animal had not shown signs of aggression and left the port without further incident.

Workers at the port are reportedly highly trained in how to deal with the polar bears as the facility is built into their natural territory and they often appear at the site.

Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) are the largest land carnivores currently in existence and are listed as vulnerable on the IUCN’s Red List.
