Security footage from the crowded passenger bus shows the driver, Mr Zhang, wearing earphones and driving with one hand while propping up his head with the other.
He is also seen cleaning the underside of his nails before bizarrely beginning to take the pen apart in order to pass the time.

But as he focuses on the pen and forgets to watch the road ahead, traffic slows to a halt and Mr Zhang slams into the back a column of vehicles with a loud crash which shatters the coach’s windscreen.
Traffic police said three people were injured during the accident, but none was believed to be in any life-threatening condition.

Mr Zhang told police: “When I realised, it was already too late to brake.”
The authorities said he had been found fully liable for causing the crash.
An investigation into the incident which will also decide on the consequences for the driver is ongoing.
